…NoOne But You…
by Sue Ann

Thinking back, faint sounds come to me
the sounds of lullabyes, and nursery rhymes…
I find myself drifting into another place
A place full of warmth, and gentleness
A place where dreams come true
And all things are good, always
In the arms of my mother
Noone else could bring such a safe place
Noone
But you.
I remember times when I was scared
So vivid in my mind’s eye
I don’t remember the content
The monsters or baddies that visited me
I only remember the light filling my darkness
Noone else could chase the dark away
Noone
But you.
I remember times, growing up…
You would look on with pride, and smile
I didn’t know then that your heart was breaking
That each time you watched me stretch my wings
That you were letting go, inch by tiny inch
You opened your arms wide, and you let me go
Noone else could have made me more excited about becoming me
Noone
But you.
I remember times, when I was on top of the world
Times when I was bursting with joy
Eager to live, experience life, and become
And other times, filled with tears
And sadness, and a darkness–lonliness
Noone else was there, to make me feel normal–
loved, to share good and bad
Noone
But you.
I remember a day, full of ruffles, sequins, and glowing white
You must have thought “this is it”
I didn’t see then, your tear filled eyes
As you watched me making another turn in my life
As I made another discovery
Longing to hold me back, keep me tucked away
And yet you let me go so you could see me shine
Noone else could have given a peice of their heart away so unselfishly
Noone
But you.
I remember two days, so clear, I can taste, feel, hear
You watched, you encouraged, you were my helper
As God made a miracle out of me
Giving a boy, once, and then a girl
Precious gifts, entrusted into my care
And you were there, hard as it was
To see the pain, and want to stop it
Noone else could have smiled the smile I needed to see so that I knew it would all be okay
Noone else
But you.
I remember so many things big and small
Too many to count, and among them all
The simple truth, you always were, and always will be
The one who believes in me, who teaches me
Who loves me with out condition
Who just is always…and forever
Noone else…
But you.
Just you.

Sue Ann wrote this poem for me on Mother’s Day 1998. It means so much to think back and especially to know the hard work and the prayers all paid off. The memories are so special and I feel a proudness that only God can know. Thank you Lord for my children. They have been a blessing only You could fulfill in my life.
